As visitors step inside the beveled and etched front door system of this stucco-style patio home, a breathtaking view of Skiatook Lake draws them through three dramatic, oversized, single-light windows in the living room at the end of the widened entryway.

This week's featured home, at 11668 Giorgio Drive, is in Santa Barbara Cove, a new subdivision in Osage Hills west of Skiatook.

Just 20 miles from downtown Tulsa, the development has 26 lots, all with southerly views of the lake. The first home in this subdivision was built for the mother of Developers Ken and Barbara Taylor, of Taylor Development Group, which includes sister Beverly Taylor. Twenty-three lots remain available.

"We've designed this to be a high-continuity development for a polished look. All homes in this development are going to be common color exterior stucco or split brick with a blue heritage roof. Very Floridian. Very Caribbean. Very rich," said Ken.

The average lot size is 65 by 130 feet, perfect for upscale patio or garden homes. Zero lot lines keep yard maintenance to a minimum.

Randy Davis, president of Randy Davis Homes Inc., and his wife Debbie, who assists in running the business, have been building homes for more than 17 years. "We're a true custom home builder. We take people through lot selection to plan design, working with lot planner and architect, to landscaping," said Randy.

The Taylors and Davises are selling lots and building homes in four developments  along the shores of Skiatook Lake: Santa Barbara Cove, Beverly Hills Lake Estates I & II and Catalina Cove, the latter to open in one week.

The three-bedroom, two-bath home in Santa Barbara Cove is on one of many lots that allows for an off-the-cliff-type construction that results in views from the deck, master bedroom, living, dining and kitchen that seem suspended in the beauty of the lake. In addition to an abundance of windows, the home's open floor plan contributes to a sense of roominess.

To maintain quality, Davis uses the best contractors rather than the cheapest bid. He also incorporates some innovative ideas in the construction of his homes, which contain features that others in the industry consider extras. Energy-efficient heating and cooling systems are supplied by American Standard, named No. 1 in Consumer Reports this May after a six-year study. Exterior walls are constructed with blown-in fiberglass insulation rated at R-23. "Low E" (low-emittance) windows allow only certain light rays to penetrate. These, along with a minimum of R-38 attic insulation, help create comfortable and energy-efficient homes. The houses are also wired for smoke detectors as well as Category V data cable for telephone and computer.

Other standard amenities include security systems, central vacuums and FEMA-approved, 300-mph safe rooms.

The spacious kitchen in the feature home has off-white Laufin tile and "Caledonia Light" Canadian granite countertops with flecks of gray, black and off-white. The backsplash incorporates both the tile and touches of the granite. Oak cabinets have brushed nickel door pulls. The brushed nickel door hardware is carried throughout the home.

A nice-size laundry room that includes a pantry is located just off the kitchen. An eating bar with stools separates the kitchen and the living room which houses a 50-inch big screen television with DVD-player and Sony Surround Sound with Klipsch speakers that is situated over a remote-control fireplace. A small dining area is off to the side.

The three bedrooms are located on the east side of the home. The bedroom at the front of the home could easily be used as an office.

The master suite at the back of the house includes a lavish spa bath with cultured marble vanity and shower surround by Halcyon Marble Designs, a jetted whirlpool tub, a large walk-in closet and a safe room that could also be used as additional closet space and even to protect valuables from fire.

Davis includes some other especially nice touches in his homes such as bullnose rounded wall corners and a unique coffered ceiling treatment in the center of the master bedroom.
