This week's featured Floridian contemporary
house built by Randy Davis Homes in Destiny is at 8280 Destiny Drive west
of Skiatook near the marina at Skiatook Lake. The two-story stucco-style
3,730-square-foot home sits on 1.2 acres and has four bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths,
a gameroom, state-of-the-art theater room, large family room, study, formal
dining room, gourmet kitchen, a utility room, oversize three-car garage,
as well as a FEMA-approved "safe room." There are two levels of wood
decks with railings, a large outdoor grilling patio and a landscaped area
with plumbing ready for installation of an in-ground swimming pool. The
home is representative of the Skiatook Festival of Homes, a showcase of
other subdivisions and builders in the area.
One of the Tulsa area's greatest views can be seen from the high-elevation vista offered at Destiny, a new, private housing subdivision west of Skiatook.
Whether in search of a lot for a new home or an existing speculative house, it's worth the 20-minute drive north of Tulsa just to look out across the valley that lies beneath Destiny. The panoramic view encompasses Skiatook Lake and Dam, as well as other southern, eastern and western views. At this time of year, the verdant trees and other foliage covering northeastern Oklahoma's rolling hills are turning shades of amber, red, orange and gold. The sight might rival New England in the fall at its peak. The incredible lushness may be hard to believe, when considering the severe lack of rain during this past summer.

The private Destiny addition covers 18 acres. Six hilltop lots are still available, ranging from one to two acres each. There is one fully constructed home that has been sold. Then, there is this week's featured Floridian contemporary speculative home. In addition, there is a lot covering 2 1/2 acres and another larger lot that covers 5 acres.
Developer
Randy Davis said he purposely chose to keep Destiny small, so that homeowners
could maintain the property value and integrity of privacy, while assuring
that restrictive covenants are kept intact. For example, boats or trailers
will not be allowed to be parked on the street overnight. All detached
structures must be compatible in architectural style with the main home.
The driveways must be concrete, blacktop or brick. There is a 2,000-square-foot,
single-story floorplan requirement, and a 50 percent demand for masonry.
"Crystal Bay marina on Skiatook Lake has many boat slips," so the boat requirements should not be a problem, Davis said.
Davis is a member of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa, with professional connections for many years. He currently is building homes in Destiny, Beverly Hills Lake Estates I & II and Santa Barbara Cove along the shores of Skiatook Lake, Summit in Skiatook and Ky Lake Estates in Claremore. Two speculative houses include the featured Destiny house and a patio home at Lot J in Santa Barbara Cove.
The
Destiny model from the front appears to be a single-story house. However,
due to the rolling terrain, construction permitted the builder to take
advantage of a more interesting architectural design involving two stories.
The gray stucco EIFS exterior is detailed in white with black wrought iron
lighting fixtures.
A beveled and etched front door system opens to 12-foot ceilings that are in the entry and family room. The "coastal" influence may come from the many travels the Davis family has made to vacation spots in Florida, the Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where both Randy Davis and his wife, Debbie, who is a travel agent, said they love to study what is fashionable and livable in both resort and residential living.
The Destiny house reflects a sunny, refreshing
openness that is clean and carefree, with huge glass windows and transoms.
Davis uses some fundamental good building practices in his construction,
as well as some innovative ideas. Basic are "low-E" (or low-emittance)
windows, allowing certain light rays to penetrate. Cooling and heating
systems are energy-efficient by American Standard. There are lots of arched
doorways and wall corners are bullnose rounded. The exterior walls are
blown with a batting with R28 factor insulation. A full security system
is monitored by Advance and the house is hard-wired for smoke detectors.
The house also has Category V data cable allowing for four phone lines.
Several
features of the house are outstanding, including unusual oval tray ceiling
treatments in several rooms, a "safe room" that was approved by the U.S.
Federal Emergency Management Agency, and a state-of-the-art downstairs
theater room that has a DVD television, Bose surround-sound system and
special red-alert fire alarm system, just in case the volume of the room
exceeds any emergency.
The gourmet kitchen has "Blue Pearl" Norwegian granite countertops, accented by blue nickel hardware on the high- gloss enamel white Harris of Broken Arrow cabinetry and ceramic backsplashes. There are double stainless- steel sinks, a Jenn-Air range with grill and downdraft vent, GE Profile Performance black-glass ovens, a GE Triton dishwasher, under cabinet lighting and overhead can lighting.
Berber carpeting leads to the downstairs gameroom near the theater room that has a full-size pool table, two slot machines and a juke box from Armini's of Tulsa. There is a wet bar with a stainless-steel sink, wine rack and wide windows that open to the backyard deck for serving guests during outdoors events and barbecues.
The master suite is accompanied by a lavish spa bath with separate vanities and large whirlpool tub, closet toilet and huge walk-in closet where there are hookups for a washer and dryer. This is in addition to the utility room that is near the three-car garage. There is a central vacuum system and handy floor- level vent slats that allow for sweeping dust to a collection containment chamber in the garage.
Davis prides himself on many special considerations
that he includes in his construction. The featured Destiny house is listed
for $399,000. Open house hours will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday
